Vote for Kathleen Thompson for National Delegate, Texas SD12

Update:

7 June 2008 - I won! It's just after 2 a.m. Saturday morning and it's been a great day for the Texas Democratic Party, for the Mid-Cities Democrats and for me personally. Thank you to fellow candidates Diane Jay and Brandy Wicker, who threw their support to me and thank you to the Obama delegation. It was humbling to see so many stand up for me when my name was called. I will make our delegation proud.

5 June 2008 - Made it to Austin and caught the tail ends of the Mid-Cities Democrats' social at Six Lounge and the Turn Texas Blue Obama party at Club de Ville. Excited and ready to work.

3 June 2008 - Great to meet so many other delegates from Senate District 12 last Saturday at the Obama "Pre-Caucus" Session. For those of you that were unable to attend and hear the national delegate candidate's presentations, mine is available here.

About me

I am a Democratic organizer in North Texas, married to Jeremy Johnson with one son, Owen. I've lived in Tarrant County for more than 25 years and we live in the wonderful city of Grapevine.

My liberal activism

In high school, I led the Grapevine High School Young Democrats. While earning my degree in radio, television and film (and minoring in Women's Studies) at the University of N. Texas, I served in the Student Government Association and its multi-cultural affairs committee. I was also co-chair of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance and founded and led Students for Choice, a pro-choice student group.

Currently, I have the pleasure to serve as Democratic Precinct Chair for Tarrant County's Precinct 3384. I am president of the Colleyville, Grapevine Southlake Democrats club and vice-president of the Mid-Cities Democrats, a G-PAC, the largest grassroots political action committee in Tarrant County, dedicated to getting Democratic candidates elected and furthering Democratic principles and values in our community.

Working for the Obama Campaign

I serve as a Senate District 12 Obama Delegation Captain, coordinating SD12 delegates for the State Convention.

I attend each Northeast Tarrant County Obama for America meeting, talking up local politics and working to channel the excitement about Barack Obama into our campaigns for our fantastic state and local races.

After working the historic and exhausting March 4th primary as election judge, I helped organize the largest precinct grouping for SD12, Group 44 Obama delegates, guiding several dozen delegates and alternates new to the Democratic convention process. I served many long hours as an Obama Delegate on the SD12 Credentials Committee in the weeks prior to our convention. This was a vitally important task, and I was happy to be able to serve in this way. I continue to help organize volunteers for Tarrant County Obama for America.

As a delegate in Denver:

  • I will work honorably to support Barack Obama
  • I will represent the Texas delegation well
  • I will reach out to Clinton supporters so they feel welcome when Obama wins the nomination
